Exhibition Period | 9 — 19 March, 2015
Clipper Lounge, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
Press release:
Gallery EXIT is pleased to present Imagined Geographies - a group show featuring artworks by Chris HUEN, Gabriel LEUNG, Ivy Ma and Lulu NGIE at the Clipper Lounge in Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, the official partner hotel of Art Basel Hong Kong.
Ranging from painting, photographs and an installation, the nine works on view will present different interpretations on the notion of landscape.
Just as books communicate through words, landscapes communicate through morphological and architectural elements. This allows for a thread of interpretations based on physical, political, cultural and emotional narratives.
The works on view take up this notion of landscape as a narrative device that entertains mediation by individual projection and interpretation. Traditional style of en-plein air painting, Chinese shanshui landscape ink painting, taxonomic photography or even moving images of black and white movies - these landscapes are the manifestation of each artist's imagined geography, opening up further invention and inviting imagination.
